DAY 9 - God is Working Behind the Scenes

ree

Scripture Reading — Genesis 49:8-12

God often works in ways we do not understand. He often does not follow human logic.

On his deathbed, Jacob predicted that the ruler of his descendants would come from the tribe of Judah, not from that of his oldest son.

The first fulfillment of this prophecy was the crowning of King David of Judah. But later, after Judah was conquered and exiled to Babylon, no other king from Judah ruled.

Had God’s scepter departed? No, the eternal King—Jesus—was coming. He is the only one who can claim the scepter of God’s kingdom.

Throughout history, God often works out his plan behind the scenes. He works the same way today. Sometimes we think our circumstances are too small or too normal for God to care about. Sometimes we think God is too slow, but in God’s perfect timing we must learn to wait. Our limited vision doesn’t allow us to see how God is working behind the questionable scenes in our lives, but we can trust He is. In fact, it may be precisely in the moments we understand Him the least that He is working the most.

Jesus told His disciples, “You don’t understand now what I am doing, but someday you will” (John 13:7). Sometimes, it is only after the fact that what we thought were setbacks were God’s setups all along.  Every family has its own challenges, but rest assured, God is working for your greater good. When we give up our need to know all the details, we can have a holy confidence in our all-powerful God.

God loves to work in the events of our everyday lives and in our personal relationships. Are your eyes open to see God at work in our family and church? Be ready for divine surprises in your life.

O God, open our eyes to see Jesus working in human history, in the church, in our families, and in our lives. And even though we don’t know what’s coming, we trust that You have a perfect plan. In a world of uncertainties, we are thankful Your steadfast love never changes. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
