God's Word: The Truest Route

ree

Jackie and I have two grandchildren - Levi (3 years old) and Maggie (7 months old). These two little nuggets are our joy and are a big reason why we have recommitted to going to the gym. We want to (1) have the energy to keep up with them and (2) increase our chances of being around to see them grow up into adults. While the thought of being fun and active grandparents keeps us motivated, the work that goes on in the gym is hard. These 50 plus year old bodies ache, and we are often tempted to skip days. But when we think about our "why" -- enjoying those two babies with good health and strength -- we pull ourselves out of bed, get dressed, and head to the gym. If we want the end goal, we have to build healthy habits and routines. We have to embrace the process of discipline.

As followers of Christ, discipline is a part of our growth and prepares us for what should be our goals - living a life that glorifies God and living a life that will ultimately lead us to eternity with our Heavenly King. Hebrews 12:11-13 teaches us a few things about being disciplined children of God:

1. We are reminded that the trials we endure in this life are hard but temporary, If we endure them, we grow. We learn to be more like Christ, and we glorify God.

2. We are called to reset, take action, and strengthen ourselves in the face of trials.

3. We are cautioned to stay spiritually stable by staying on a righteous path and avoiding falling away from our faith.

Discipline does not feel good, but it is necessary. Embrace the process and trust that God and that great cloud of witnesses is cheering us on to victory!

Saved to Serve,

Pastor Keith
